Infertility is referred to a medical condition where a couple is unable to conceive a child after a year of regular intercourse without contraception. As per modern science, the cause of infertility in men includes low sperm production or hindrance in sperm transport due to varicocele, infections, ejaculation issues, hormone balances, congenital issues etc. While for women, it is caused due to irregular menstrual cycles, PCOS, age, hormonal changes, endometriosis, etc.
How Does Ayurveda Explain Infertility?
According to Ayurveda, when a person’s reproductive tissues or Shukra dhatuis lacking nourishment, infertility issues can occur. The health of shukra dhatudepends on the health of the other tissues or dhatusin one’s body. In Ayurveda, the emphasis is not given in merely conceiving but in giving birth to a child who is mentally, physically and emotionally healthy.
The reproductive tissue in women is formed by the ovum and in men by the semen. Low nourishment of Shukra dhatuhappens due to poor digestion and presence of toxins in one’s body. There are other prevailing factors too that can cause infertility, which includes, depression, stress, anxiety, insomnia, unhealthy eating habits, etc.

Agni Deepana and Ama Panchana

Vamanam is one of the Panchakarma therapies. This therapy helps in detoxifying the whole body by inducing vomiting using medicated herbs or oils.

Phala gritam is an Ayurvedic medicine that can effectively treat female infertility. This herbal formulation needs to be consumed in the form of liquefied butter with milk.
Banyan Tree Bark
The medicinal properties of the banyan tree are used widely used to treat infertility in women. The bark of the banyan tree is used for this ailment. An Ayurvedic doctor will prescribe the right dosage of the dried banyan tree bark powder that needs to be consumed with milk or otherwise.
Triphala churna is a combination of three different fruits-amla, beheda and haritaki. This medicine helps in clearing the blockages of the fallopian tubes and helps in strengthening and purifying the body.
