Dr. Tony Fernandez is a doyen in the field of ophthalmology with over fifty years of experience in the field. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri, which is the fourth highest civilian award in the country, from the Government of India in the year 2008. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy award for excellence in medical field.
Dr. Tony was instrumental in developing the ophthalmology department in Little flower hospital, Angamaly in Kerala to one of the most sought after eye care centres in India.
He has served as the president of the Indian Ophthalmological society and as the editor of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has also a Family Trust which undertakes several charitable works in the state of Kerala. It includes sponsorship for the poor children, construction of houses for the poor and rehabilitation of the disabled and poor.
